What is DMCA?

The Digital Millennium Copyright Act, which among other provisions, criminalizes circumvention of digital rights management systems, affecting security research and privacy tools.

While primarily a copyright law, the DMCA has significant implications for privacy and security.

Section 1201: Anti-Circumvention

  • Makes it illegal to bypass digital rights management (DRM)
