Tails

Tails is a portable operating system designed to protect users from surveillance, censorship, advertising, and viruses. It uses the Tor network to ensure online privacy and security. Key features include a digital security toolbox with ready-to-use applications for secure communication and document handling, as well as safe defaults. Tails is based on Debian GNU/Linux and can be downloaded for free, with independent security researchers able to verify its work. The system leaves no trace on the computer when shut down, making it a secure option for sensitive activities. Tails is used by activists to hide their identities and avoid censorship, journalists to publish sensitive information, domestic violence survivors to escape surveillance, and anyone needing extra privacy. It is part of the Tor Project, a global nonprofit developing tools for online privacy and anonymity, and is funded by donations from individuals and organizations supporting Internet freedom.
